10 Tracks - 61 Minutes

I could compare this record to other Underworld releases, but then that wouldn't be fair to the uniqueness of this album. See, for years Underworld has consisted of 3 members. But recently, Darren Emerson split ways with Karl Hyde and Rick Smith, setting out on his own DJ adventures. And this album is the first Underworld release without D. Emerson since the 80's release titled Underneath the Radar.

But all things aside, this album is unmistakeably UNDERWORLD. Textured beats and layers of complicated electronics form soothing yet upbeat rhythms and grooves while the subconcious lyrics take weeks to fully soak in.

My favorite track is DinosaurAdventure3D . Its a very solid piece of music engineering, starting with a muffled synth bass-line and a maraca rhythm. This leads in perfect time to the bassbeat, accentuated with what sounds like a digital cowbell. The song builds in this manner while Karl Hyde's voice is heard calling out in the distance, coming in ever so subtly until he belts out his lyrics WHATCHA WAITING FOR!... The song continues to build with each sound continually building to the masterpiece... And then, right before the song hits 8 minutes in length, it ends, leaving me wet and dirty... Just like good techno should.

All in all, AHundredDaysOff is a good record. It has its mellow songs and its got his hard-hitting dance tracks... which makes it great to listen to over and over again.
